Happy
New Year to One and All!
Here
we are at the first footings of 2007 and already new discoveries have
been made. Well, rather an old one has been rediscovered! An ancient
herbal text has been unearthed leading investigators to realise the
antibacterial properties of a Pacific Island plant.
In
separate studies, people with a high intake of fish in their diet are
significantly less likely to suffer from dementia, and fish oil is being
recommended for pregnant women as a way of improving the hand eye co-ordination
of their newborns. If only we still had some fish!
In this issue several new books have been added to our list including
an exciting new Reiki title by Jin Kei Do practitioner, Steve Gooch.
Also, be sure to take advantage of True Success' generous offer of extending
its special Christmas discount to AltMedZine subscribers only!
Finally, if you haven't made a decision about where to take this year's
holiday, we have an interesting feature on the holistic health breaks
offered in the Red Sea resort of Dahab, on the Egyptian Sinai. You may
also consider Scotland, where it is comforting to know that, if you
did become sick, over 60% of surgeries regulary prescribe herbal or
homeopathic remedies.
Welcome to your first issue of AltMedZine for 2007 and we wish you all
the best for the coming year.

Mining
of Ancient Herbal Text Leads to Potential New Anti-Bacterial
Drug
A
Mayo Clinic collaboration has revived the healing wisdom

extract described in a 17th century Dutch herbal text for
its anti-bacterial properties. Early results show that extracts
from the Atun tree effectively control bacteria that can
cause diarrhoea, as claimed by naturalist Georg Eberhard
Rumpf, circa 1650.
