TaoTeChing
Revealing the Tao Te Ching

Translation and Commentary by Hu Xuezhi; Edited by Jesse Lee Parker
There are many English translations of the Tao Te Ching. In fact, it is one of the most frequently translated works other than the Bible. This classic dates to 500 B.C. and was attributed to Lao Tzi. While the original work is relatively short, it presents a conflict of logic to the western mind, which can be very thought provoking. After all, ‘The Tao that can be spoken of is not the eternal Tao.’

Peace and Goodwill

Another fortnight goes by and another row breaks out in the peaceful world of alternative medicine: in fact we have several rows to report on this week.

Firstly, that old friend of complementary therapies, the British Medical Journal, published an article by cancer specialist Professor Jonathan Waxman of Imperial College London attacking the 'vile and cynical exploitation' of cancer sufferers by alternative healers. He has a particular problem with the use of shark cartilage (see News).

Another cancer expert, Dr George Lewith, defends the use of complementary therapies in the treatment of cancer, saying that most patients who used it (around 30% of people with the disease) found it helpful (see News).

Alternative health reasearcher and writer Om Prakash, meanwhile, gives some actual examples of helpful treatments (see News).

Meanwhile, in Canada, an argument rages - among practitioners, naturally - as to whether the proposed regulation of acupuncturists will be beneficial (see Acupuncture).

This is our last altmedzine before Christmas, so may we take this opportunity of thanking you for your support for this fledgeling venture, and wish you a happy and fulfilling holiday. We look forward to welcoming you back on Thursday January 4th, at which time many of our readers will be anxious to put those New Year Resolutions into practise, and hopefully we will be able to put you in the right direction.
